Votes for Women advertisement by Shredded Wheat dated August 1913
Votes for Women. Shredded Wheat Company. "Votes For Women." Original advertisement from The Minneapolis Journal 3 August 1913.
Original colour advertisement, 260 x 360 mm, removed from the Minneapolis Journal, 3 August 1913. A little light creasing and marginal wear from original publication, with a few short edge tears and old folds, a tear at the bottom edge, otherwise very good. A contemporary pencil date to one page and a modern note to the reverse identifying the source.
An attractive American advertising poster linking the campaign for women's suffrage with the marketing of Shredded Wheat breakfast cereal. Published at a pivotal moment in the American suffrage movement, the advertisement opens with the bold heading "Votes For Women" and notes that "Two million women will have a right to vote in the next Presidential election", before encouraging readers to support Shredded Wheat in their homes.
Issued on the back cover of the Sunday Magazine of the Minneapolis Journal on 3 August 1913, just months before the great Woman Suffrage Procession in Washington, D.C. Ephemeral items of this nature are seldom seen.
