Tall octavo, 70, [1]pp. Original silver paper-covered boards patterned with repeated black "VA" monograms, black spine, in the original card slipcase with printed publisher's label. Book and slipcase both about Very Good, with mild rubbing to edges and corners. Light to moderate foxing throughout, heavier in places. Contemporary or later ownership inscription to front blank.
The first publication of Harrison of Paris, designed by Monroe Wheeler and printed in Paris in September 1930 by Ducros & Colas. One of 440 copies printed on Arches vellum, this copy numbered 197. A further 5 copies were printed on China paper, 20 on iridescent Japan vellum, and 10 copies were issued not for sale.
An attractive early example of Harrison of Paris book design, presenting Shakespeare's narrative poem in the publisher's distinctive style and retaining its original slipcase.
