Two autograph letters signed from Prince Castelcicala to Sir George Murray 1846

CASTELCICALA, Prince [Paolo Ruffo di Bagnara, 1791-1866]. Two third-person autograph letters to General Sir George Murray, concerning the Infante Don Sebastian. London: 14 and 27 January 1846.
 
Two single sheets, each approximately 115 x 185 mm, written on one side in ink and addressed from 15 Princes Street, Cavendish Square. Old folds, toning and light handling marks; about Very Good.
 
Two letters from the Neapolitan diplomat Prince Castelcicala to General Sir George Murray (1772-1846). In the first, Castelcicala tells Murray that he "will have much pleasure in sending to Naples the packet for His Royal Highness the Infante Don Sebastian." The second asks Murray to send the Prince another copy of "Lord Manners' late publication."
 
Paolo Ruffo di Bagnara, Prince of Castelcicala, was the Neapolitan minister in London from 1840 to 1851. The Infante Don Sebastian Gabriel de Borbon y Braganza (1811-1875), a prince of Spain and Portugal who had fought for the Carlist cause during the First Carlist War, was living in Naples during this period.
 
The recipient, General Sir George Murray, was a distinguished British soldier and politician who had served as Wellington's Quartermaster-General during the Peninsular War and subsequently as Secretary of State for War and the Colonies. At the date of these letters he was Master-General of the Ordnance. An interesting pair of diplomatic notes.
