Two autograph letters signed by traveller and writer Rosita Forbes c1930s

FORBES, Rosita (1890-1967). Two autograph letters signed, to Mr Marshall, [c.1930s].
 
Two letters, each written on both sides. The first, dated 8 September, 140 x 180 mm, written from Craigellachie, Scotland, with a London address at the head struck through and a temporary Scottish address added in manuscript. The second, dated 14 October, 120 x 150 mm, on headed paper of 28 Great Cumberland Place, London, with telephone number "Paddington 9401". Old folds, some light handling and spotting, particularly to the second letter. Very good overall.
 
A related pair of letters from the traveller, explorer and writer Rosita Forbes, concerning a proposed reunion, her lecture commitments and arrangements for a further speaking engagement. In the first Forbes tells Marshall that she would be pleased to attend one of his reunions, but explains that she has agreed to undertake "a lecture tour round the British industrial towns this Autumn". 
The second letter follows the arrangement through. Forbes has returned from lecturing and writes that she is "looking forward to meeting you all on the 17th". She also discusses another proposed appearance, asking whether she is expected "to make any sort of speech, or some casual reasonably impromptu remarks", and seeks details of the venue.
 
Forbes was one of the best-known British women travellers of the inter-war period, particularly celebrated for her journey to the Kufra Oasis in Libya in 1920-21. She subsequently combined extensive travel and writing with a busy programme of public lecturing.
