Two autograph letters signed by actress Gertrude Kingston dated c1898
KINGSTON, Gertrude (1862-1937). Two autograph letters signed ("Gertrude Kingston Silver"), one on Haymarket Theatre headed paper, inviting the recipient to luncheon and commenting upon the reception of a recent play. c1898.
Two autograph letters signed. Both single sheets, each approximately 110 x 180 mm, each folded and written on two sides, one in pencil and one in ink. One written from the Haymarket Theatre, both on 9 Norfolk Street, Park Lane headed paper. Very good.
Two letters from the actress and theatrical manager Gertrude Kingston, signed in her married name "Gertrude Kingston Silver". Kingston enjoyed a distinguished stage career in London from the 1880s onwards, appearing at the Haymarket Theatre before later becoming an actor-manager and playwright. The letters concern social arrangements. One contains the observation that although the play has been badly treated, she herself has not. Another she writes " Excuse the pencil I am writing this on the stage".
