The Years Between by Rudyard Kipling first edition 1919 Fine
KIPLING, Rudyard. The Years Between. London: Methuen & Co. Ltd., 1919.
First edition. Octavo. 159 pp. Original red cloth, lettered in gilt to spine, in the original pictorial dust wrapper, the spine of the wrapper overprinted with the revised price of 8/6. An exceptional copy. The cloth is bright and virtually unworn, the gilt fresh, and the contents exceptionally clean. A number of gatherings remain unopened. The dust wrapper is complete, remarkably fresh and clean, with only the slightest signs of age and handling. Fine in an almost fine dust wrapper.
The first edition of Kipling's 1919 collection of verse, published in the immediate aftermath of the First World War. The volume includes poems written across the preceding years and reflects both the war and the political and social concerns of the period.
The wrapper is the second issue, carrying the revised price of 8/6 rather than the original 7/6. Particularly notable here is the extraordinary state of preservation: an unusually fresh copy, retaining its fragile original wrapper and with portions of the text still unopened. A superb example.
