The Women of England a music sheet published by the WSPU c1910
[Women's Social and Political Union] WARD-HIGGS, W. The Women of England.
London, The Woman’s Press, 156 Charing Cross Road, [circa 1910].
Four pages, single bifolium with additional folded leaves, 270 × 370 mm, words and music printed throughout; original issue. Condition is good only: toned throughout, with repeated edge tears affecting all pages, small losses at margins, a tear to the lower edge and side edges, and loss to the top corner of the rear page; fragile but complete.
The Woman's Press was the publishing and printing arm of the WSPU. This scarce music sheet printed by them is a call for men to rise up and stand with the women of England:
"Hear us sons of Britannia! Hear us, brothers of ours! Hear us now when we call you;
Help us with your powers! For we are the Women of England, Free born and bred like you;
Ye are the sons of Britannia, we are her daughters true! Never have we failed you,
Trust and try us a new, stand by the women of England, as they have stood by you!"
A delicate survivor, in good only condition - but a rare piece of WSPU printed ephemera.
