The Voice of Fire by Manuel Komroff first edition 1927 Edward W. Titus
KOMROFF, Manuel. The Voice of Fire. Paris: Edward W. Titus, 1927.
Large octavo, 190 x 260 mm. (vi), 95, (iii) pp. Publisher's cream paper-covered boards, printed in black, original acetate wrapper retained. A remarkably fresh copy with clean, crisp boards and contents; a small cluster of light indentation marks to the rear board, otherwise near fine.
First edition of Komroff's historical novel set during the French Revolution, illustrated with four striking full-page wood engravings by Polia Chentoff. Published by Edward W. Titus at his Paris press, noted during the 1920s for finely produced English-language limited and illustrated books. Chentoff was a Russian-born artist and printmaker associated with the Paris emigre artistic community, whose bold expressionist wood engravings complement the subject matter rather well.
