An early edition of Florence Marryat's work on spiritualism, following the first edition of 1894. Marryat, already well known as a novelist, became one of the more prominent late-Victorian advocates of spiritualism and wrote extensively from her own claimed experiences of seances, spirit communication and materialisation. The contents include chapters on "The Cure for Death", "Spiritualism and the Bible", "What Authors and Poets Think of Spiritualism", "Miss Marryat's Bogus Bogey", and "How to Investigate Spiritualism".
Particularly attractive in the original pictorial boards, the front showing a spirit figure materialising above a seated man, with further illustrated contemporary advertisements at the front and rear.
