Engraved portrait after a drawing by T. Wright, engraved by H. Evans. Image approximately 130 x 200 mm on a larger sheet measuring approximately 220 x 300 mm. Uncoloured. Published imprint beneath portrait: "Published 1 March 1800 by Tho. Medland, Abingdon Street, Westm."

Some creasing, heavy in places and old fold marks to sheet, light age-toning and occasional spotting; a good example with generous margins.

A finely executed posthumous portrait of George Washington in military uniform, issued less than three months after his death on 14 December 1799. Published on 1 March 1800 by the London engraver and printseller Thomas Medland, the print was part of the first wave of British memorial portraits produced in response to Washington's passing.

A contemporary British memorial portrait of Washington, published within a few months of his death.
