8vo, pp 589. Publisher’s green cloth lettered in purple; binding bright and square. The pictorial dust jacket shows some wear, creasing and short tears to the extremities, with chipping to the top of the spine, with the attractive wrap-around village-map design. Overall: about very good.
 
First edition of Holtby’s posthumously published and best known novel, completed shortly before her death in 1935 and edited for press by Vera Brittain. South Riding draws on Holtby’s observations of Yorkshire civic life and local government.
