Signed and dated postcard of suffragette Flora Drummond dated 1908
DRUMMOND, Flora (1878-1949). Votes for Women postcard portrait, signed and dated 20 September 1908.
Photographic postcard, 140 x 90 mm, issued by Votes for Women, depicting Flora Drummond in half-length portrait, captioned "Mrs. Flora Drummond. Organiser, Women's Social and Political Union, 4 Clement's Inn, Strand, W.C." Signed across the image and dated "20.9.08" beneath the signature. Some remnants of former album mounting to the reverse, light surface marking and trivial wear to extremities, otherwise a very good example.
A rare signed suffragette portrait postcard of Flora Drummond (1878-1949), one of the most prominent and recognisable organisers of the Women's Social and Political Union. Nicknamed "The General" for her military-style uniform and leadership of marches and demonstrations, Drummond was among the most visible figures in the militant phase of the British suffrage campaign, regularly leading processions on horseback and acting as one of Emmeline Pankhurst's most trusted lieutenants. Dated at the height of the suffrage campaign and bearing the printed address of the Women's Social and Political Union headquarters at Clement's Inn.
