She was a Lady The Saint by Leslie Charteris first edition 1931
CHARTERIS, Leslie. She Was a Lady.
London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1931.
8vo, 315 pp. Original blue cloth, upper board lettered in black with publisher’s monogram at lower right, spine lettered in black. A very good copy. Boards with light general handling wear and a marked area toward the lower portion of the upper board; minor rubbing at extremities. Text block sound, with occasional light foxing and some browning to the rear endpapers. No ownership inscriptions.
First edition of the seventh “Saint” novel featuring Simon Templar, issued during the formative phase of the series. By the early 1930s Charteris had firmly established the character as a modern adventurer figure, whose popularity would later expand considerably through film and broadcast adaptations. A presentable pre-war Saint title in original cloth.
