Original photographic postcard, 135 x 90 mm, showing Flora Drummond standing full length and holding a rolled document, signed by her in blue ink across the lower right of the image. Postcard no. 41, unused, with divided back. With surface creases and scratches, some silvering and rubbing, and wear to edges and corners. The signature is clear. Good.
 
A signed contemporary photographic portrait of Flora Drummond (1878-1949), one of the prominent organisers of the Women's Social and Political Union. Drummond joined the WSPU in 1906 and became an energetic campaigner for women's suffrage, repeatedly arrested and imprisoned for her activities. Known as "The General", she became particularly recognisable for leading suffrage demonstrations in military-style dress and, famously, on horseback.
 
Drummond was closely associated with the Pankhursts and played a prominent role in some of the WSPU's most confrontational campaigns. Her forceful public speaking and organisational work made her one of the better-known personalities of the militant suffrage movement. Uncommon signed.
