Photographic portrait of Rudyard Kipling dated c.1912
KIPLING, Rudyard (1865-1936). Photographic portrait, c.1912.
150 x 205 mm. Matte photographic print on stout card. Very good, the image clean and well preserved with only light handling wear and a few insignificant surface marks to the corner tips and blank reverse.
A handsome vintage photographic portrait of Rudyard Kipling shown in profile holding his characteristic pipe. The image appears to date from around 1912, depicting Kipling at the height of his literary career shortly after receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1907 and during the period in which he produced works including Rewards and Fairies and A Diversity of Creatures. The pose closely resembles portraits made during Kipling's 1912 studio sitting with E.O.Hoppe, although the present photograph is unsigned and the photographer has not been identified. An attractive period literary portrait of the author of The Jungle Book.
