Gabrielle Rejane, born Gabrielle Charlotte Reju, was one of the leading French actresses of the Belle Epoque and an international stage celebrity. Her greatest success came as Catherine in Victorien Sardou's Madame Sans-Gene, a role she created in 1893 and subsequently performed throughout Europe and America; she also created the French role of Nora in Ibsen's A Doll's House. From 1906 she ran her own Theatre Rejane in Paris. Dated during the First World War and towards the end of her career, when she was still appearing in London.
