WOMEN’S SOCIAL AND POLITICAL UNION. Vote for the Women. Tune “The Keel Row.”
London: Printed and Published by Geo. Barber, Furnival Press, Furnival Street, Holborn, E.C. [c.1908–1910].
Single sheet, 140 × 110 mm, printed in green on wove paper. Near fine. Central vertical fold as issued; paper clean with only light natural toning and minimal handling wear.
A WSPU campaign song-sheet adapting the traditional air “The Keel Row” to militant suffrage purposes. Issued from the Union’s headquarters at 4 Clement’s Inn. The refrain — “Vote for the women … and keep the Liberal out” — places it squarely within the period of escalating hostility towards the Liberal government after 1908, when frustration at legislative inaction hardened into organised political opposition.
Song sheets such as this were ephemeral by nature: cheaply produced, distributed in the streets, and intended for immediate collective performance. Survival in clean condition is uncommon, particularly with strong colour and without heavy folding or edge loss.
