Married Love signed by Marie C. Stopes 15th edition printed August 1924
Stopes, Marie Carmichael (1880-1958). Married Love: A New Contribution to the Solution of Sex Difficulties. London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, [1924].
Fifteenth edition, signed by Marie Stopes in blue ink beneath her portrait frontispiece. Octavo. xix, 169 pp., followed by one page of advertisements. Original blue-grey cloth, in the original dust jacket. Portrait frontispiece with tissue guard; page edges untrimmed. Corners bumped, with occasional mild foxing and browning. Jacket toned, particularly at the spine, with minor wear to the spine ends; no printed price. A very good copy in a very good jacket.
A signed copy of Stopes's best-known work, first published in 1918, which challenged prevailing attitudes towards marriage. Its enormous readership established Stopes as a central figure in the public debate over sexual education and marital relations.
The fifteenth edition was printed August 1924. Numbered copies with a limitation label and elaborate gilt decoration are recorded; this example has a plain cloth binding and carries neither a limitation label nor a number, but includes the signed portrait frontispiece.
