Marie by H. Rider Haggard first edition 1912
HAGGARD, H. Rider. Marie. London: Cassell and Company, Ltd, 1912.
First edition. Octavo. xvi, 346 pp. Illustrated by A. C. Michael with colour frontispiece and three black and white plates. Publisher's red cloth, upper board lettered in blind, spine lettered and decorated in gilt.
A very good copy. The boards are clean and bright, with only light general wear. Spine gilt remains strong. Some light foxing to the page edges and to the first few leaves, otherwise internally clean.
Marie is one of Haggard's Allan Quatermain novels and follows the younger Quatermain in South Africa, with the story centred on Marie Marais and set against the background of the Great Trek. It was first serialised in Cassell's Magazine before publication in book form in 1912.
