First edition. ix, 294pp. Frontispiece and photographic plates. Publisher’s red cloth. With the original dust jacket. A short signed note by the author, written on blue Grosvenor Square stationery and pasted to the front board: “For Miss J. Anderson, with best wishes from Eleanor Smith.”
Jacket in very good condition, with loss and tearing at the spine ends and corners, and some general creasing and handling; price (12/6) intact. Cloth clean and bright, internally near fine. The inserted signed note neatly affixed.
Eleanor Smith’s memoir about her upbringing amongst the political elite, then latterly her adventures following travelling circuses and literary life. The work includes photographic illustrations of circus life and contemporary society, reflecting Smith’s position within both bohemian and aristocratic circles (she was member of the tabloid coined 'bright young things'). Uncommon in jacket and with the signed note.
