BARRETT BROWNING (Elizabeth). Last Poems.

London: Chapman & Hall, 1862.

First edition. 8vo, original violet cloth with blind-stamped panels, gilt lettering to spine, brown endpapers. Rubbing to spine extremities and fading to the spine, corners lightly bumped; inner hinges sound, the text clean throughout. Contemporary ownership inscription to the half-title. Overall, a very good copy.

Published posthumously by Robert Browning, this final collection gathers the poems found after Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s death in 1861, including 'A Musical Instrument', her lyrical farewell to the craft of poetry. Issued in the distinctive Chapman & Hall violet cloth, the volume stands as the concluding chapter of one of the great Victorian poets.
