First edition, limited large-paper issue, number 174 of 200 copies printed on English hand-made paper and signed by Vita Sackville-West on the limitation page. Original publisher's yellow paper-covered boards. 140 x 220 mm. 12 pages. A few small spots and light marks to the boards with minor rubbing to the extremities, otherwise a particularly clean, bright copy internally. Very good.
 
Number 37 in Faber's celebrated Ariel Poems series, Invitation to Cast Out Care is one of the scarcer signed Ariel titles. The text is complemented by original illustrations by Graham Sutherland, whose striking designs perfectly capture the poem's contemplative atmosphere.
 
Vita Sackville-West (1892-1962), poet, novelist and creator of the gardens at Sissinghurst Castle. Her contribution to the Ariel series, combining her signature with illustrations by Graham Sutherland, represents one of the most desirable titles in the sequence.
