Large quarto (290 x 220 mm). With 36 steel engraved plates after Chalon, Leslie, Harding, Herbert, Meadows, Stephanoff, Corbould, Westall and others. Complete as issued. Plates clean and well printed. Original publisher's red cloth gilt, upper cover titled in gilt with decorative gilt corner ornaments and blind ruled border, spine gilt. Boards marked and lightly rubbed with some staining to cloth; internally very clean with only light occasional spotting, very good.

 

A collection of steel engravings illustrating scenes from the works of Lord Byron, produced under the direction of the engraver Charles Heath and drawn by several of the leading artists of the period. These illustrated gift volumes were among the earliest examples of large scale steel engraving projects in early Victorian publishing. Contains a comprehensive collection of Byron's well known poems like Medora, Zuleika and The Shipwreck.
