Death on Tour by John Courage / Richard Goyne first edition 1937
COURAGE, John [pseud. Richard Goyne]. Death on Tour. London: Stanley Paul & Co. Ltd., 1937.
First edition. Octavo. 255 pp., followed by a 40-page publisher's catalogue. Original red cloth in the striking original dust jacket. A Near Fine copy, the cloth exceptionally fresh and the contents clean. The dust jacket is bright and substantially complete, with only light rubbing and creasing, a few tiny nicks at the extremities, and some toning and light soiling to the white spine and rear panel. Near Fine.
A particularly attractive example of 1930s British crime fiction in its original pictorial dust jacket. John Courage was the pseudonym of Richard Goyne, and Death on Tour forms part of his series featuring the detective David Cane. The novel follows Freddie Farnham and his travelling theatrical company, the "Frolics", as they tour the villages of England, only for murder to intrude upon the company. Uncommon with the jacket and in such nice condition.
