Large folding commemorative card (bifolium), opening to approx. 380 × 230 mm (folded 190 × 230 mm). The outer wrapper with elaborate blind-embossed lace-pattern border incorporating floral motifs, royal crowns, cyphers and the Royal Arms; the inner leaf colour-printed in blue, red and gilt with the heading “Baptism of the Prince” and the full names and parentage of Prince Christian Victor Albert Ludwig Ernst Anton, son of Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein and Princess Helena of Great Britain and Ireland, together with two hymn texts attributed to H.R.H. the Prince Consort. Marks across the front panel and lower panel, overall about good.
A scarce and attractive piece of Victorian royal ceremonial ephemera, issued for the baptism at Windsor Castle of the future soldier-prince who would later serve in the Boer War and die on active service in South Africa in 1900.
