“Tune—The Roast Beef of Old England.”

London: T. Birt, 39 Great St. Andrew Street, Seven Dials, [1840].

Single sheet broadside (220 × 160 mm), printed on thin wove paper; minor foxing and light old folds, small hole touching one line of text, traces of old mounting at corners on verso, a small tear, loss to the edges; an about very good survival.

A street-ballad celebrating the birth of Queen Victoria’s first child, the Princess Royal, on 21 November 1840 — written to the tune of “The Roast Beef of Old England.” Issued by the Seven Dials printer Thomas Birt, a purveyor of popular song sheets in early Victorian London.
