Autograph note signed by British Prime Minister Herbert Asquith dated 1909
£125.00Price
ASQUITH, Herbert Henry, 1st Earl of Oxford and Asquith (1852-1928). Autograph note signed as Prime Minister. 10 Downing Street, Whitehall, 29 June 1909.
One side of a 115 x 90 mm headed card, entirely in Asquith's hand and signed with his initials "H.H.A." Contemporary pencil identification of the recipient, apparently "Mrs Loebl", to the reverse. Near fine.
A brief social note written from 10 Downing Street during Asquith's premiership. Asquith had succeeded Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman as Prime Minister in April 1908 and was then approaching the constitutional struggle over the People's Budget and the powers of the House of Lords. A smart piece of prime ministerial correspondence, on an official Downing Street headed card.
