Four-page autograph letter on pale blue writing paper, written across four sides; headed from “Lynton Lodge, Vicarage Park Road, Blackheath”; signed by Camilla Crosland. Original folds; a little light handling wear, otherwise well preserved. Near fine.
A personal family letter written during a period of illness and anxiety, referring to sickness within the family, fears for a child’s condition, and the emotional strain of prolonged illness. Crosland writes expressing sympathy, religious consolation, and concern for several named family members. She also mentions her husband Newton, the recipients brother.
Camilla Crosland (1812–1895) was a poet, novelist, and translator, best known for her translations of Victor Hugo. Letters by Crosland are uncommon.
