Autograph letter signed by the artist / writer Sir Charles Locke Eastlake 1858
EASTLAKE, Sir Charles Lock (1793-1865). Autograph letter signed to the print publisher Dominic Colnaghi concerning private-view tickets for the Duchess of Orleans. 7 Fitzroy Square, 15 April 1858.
Folded sheet, 180 x 115 mm, written on one and a half pages. Old folds and a little mounting residue to the reverse, otherwise very good.
Writing to Dominic Colnaghi, Eastlake confirms that tickets for the private view of the Royal Academy Exhibition will be sent to H.R.H. the Duchess of Orleans. The recipient was Dominic Colnaghi (1790-1879), a leading London print publisher and art dealer associated with the long-established firm of P. and D. Colnaghi.
Eastlake was at the time President of the Royal Academy, the Colnaghi firm was an important intermediary in the London art market, and the widowed Duchess of Orleans, was daughter-in-law of King Louis Philippe of France. An uncommon letter.
