AINSWORTH, William Harrison (1805–1882). Autograph letter signed to writer and antiquary John Brent (1808-1882), Canterbury, dated March 9, 1875.

 

Single sheet (written on both sides), 110 × 180 mm. One folded sheet, light toning and creases at folds and edges, a few faint handling marks, trimmed to one side, otherwise very good.

 

A letter granting permission for the republication of Ainsworth’s articles. Ainsworth writes that he is “quite at liberty to re-publish your articles, and I shall be very glad to see them again in print”. The recipient is John Brent (1808–1882), the novelist and antiquary, then residing in the Dane John, Canterbury. He was the author of 'Canterbury in the Olden Time'. In 1875 at the time of receiving this letter he had just finished 'Catalogue of the Antiquities' that is held by Canterbury Museum.
