Autograph letter signed by Lady Ann Hamilton dated 1818

Single folded letter-sheet, approximately 180 x 110 mm when folded, written on one side with integral address panel. Old postal folds, a tiny central pinhole passing through the folded sheet, and remnants of the original black wax seal with minor associated paper adhesion and wear. Contemporary manuscript endorsement identifying "Lady Ann Hamilton" and dating the letter 16 April 1818. Very good.
 
A brief autograph letter from courtier and writer Lady Anne Hamilton, daughter of Archibald Hamilton, 9th Duke of Hamilton, concerning an order for silk.
 
The letter survives in its original folded and sealed form, with postal markings and remnants of Hamilton's wax seal. Lady Anne Hamilton was closely associated with Caroline of Brunswick, later Queen Caroline, serving as one of her ladies-in-waiting and remaining a prominent supporter during the controversies surrounding Caroline and George IV. She also wrote an epic poem and there was some speculation that she was the author of a spill all book of secrets about the royal court, which meant Lady Hamilton needed to spend some time out of the country. A rare letter in her hand.
