Autograph letter signed by illustrator Major General Henry Hope Crealock c1871
CREALOCK, Major General Henry Hope (1831–1891). Autograph letter and presentation signature, September [18]– c1871, concerning a request for an autograph.
Four-page folded sheet, 180x110mm, light toning, folds as issued, otherwise very good.
The first page is a request for an autograph by a member of the public, with Crealock’s later manuscript note written across the head apologising for delay in replying. The third page continues the correspondent’s original autograph request. The final page bears Crealock’s formal response: a large, bold presentation signature with his military rank appended (“Major-General”).
Henry Hope Crealock was a Crimean War officer who rose to the rank of Major-General. He was also a distinguished artist and author in his own right, closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelite and Ruskinian circle.
