Eleanor Vere Boyle (1825-1916). Autograph letter signed about Richard Jefferies' book The Red Deer.

 

Autograph letter signed with initials, 2 pages on a folded bifolium with printed address, "4 Grosvenor Crescent, S.W.", no date but c1884, to an unidentified female correspondent. Folded for posting. Very good condition with light handling wear only.

 

Boyle thanks the recipient for bringing her a copy of The Red Deer, commenting that she has now read part of the work and enjoyed it, observing that it "reads to me like something of Richard Jefferies".

 

Eleanor Vere Boyle was one of the leading female artists and illustrators of the Victorian period, producing celebrated illustrated editions of fairy tales, children's literature and classic works throughout the second half of the nineteenth century. She is particularly associated with her illustrations to Hans Christian Andersen, Beauty and the Beast, The Story of Princess Nobody and numerous other finely illustrated gift books.
