Autograph letter signed, 3 pages on a single sheet folded, 20 March 1864. With the Sherborne/Owen provenance stamp to the first page. Very good.
 
Price writes warmly to Richard Owen, thanking him for a recent lecture and remarking that he had not realised Owen was "a great Exegete" as well as so much else. He goes on to discuss Owen's interpretation of the Greek Testament and the proper meaning of scriptural exposition.
 
Bonamy Price was an Oxford academic and later Drummond Professor of Political Economy. The recipient, Richard Owen (1804-1892), was one of the leading British scientists of the nineteenth century and coined the term "Dinosauria".
