EASTLAKE, Sir Charles Lock (1793-1865). Autograph note signed in the third person to Dawson Turner, declining an invitation to the Athenaeum. 7 Fitzroy Square, 10 August 1843.

Eastlake conveys his compliments to Dawson Turner and thanks him for his note, explaining that he is unable to attend at the Athenaeum for several days. Dawson Turner (1775-1858) was a banker, botanist, antiquary and important collector of manuscripts. Eastlake was then Secretary to the Fine Arts Commission and an increasingly influential figure in British art, later serving as President of the Royal Academy and first Director of the National Gallery.
