Autograph letter signed by artist Sir Luke Fildes to The Graphic editor 1890
FILDES, Sir Samuel Luke (1843-1927). Autograph letter signed to Arthur Locker, editor of The Graphic, requesting a review of The Dignity of Woman's Health. 27 November 1890.
Single sheet folded, four pages, 175 x 115 mm, on 11 Melbury Road, Kensington headed paper. Old folds, otherwise near fine.
Fildes asks Locker to consider a small work entitled The Dignity of Woman's Health for review in The Graphic. Although unsure whether the periodical reviewed medical books, he explains that the work approaches its subject from a popular point of view and asks whether Locker might submit it to the paper's medical critic for an opinion.
An excellent association letter between Fildes and Arthur Locker (1828-1893), the novelist, journalist and editor of The Graphic, for which Fildes had produced some of his most important early illustrations.
