Autograph letter signed by artist Sir Luke Fildes about the Savage Club 1882

FILDES, Sir Samuel Luke (1843-1927). Autograph letter signed concerning a ticket for a Savage Club dinner. 8 February 1882.
 
Single sheet folded, written on two pages, 140 x 90 mm, on 11 Melbury Road, Kensington headed paper. Old folds, otherwise very good.
 
Fildes encloses a cheque for a dinner ticket, explaining that he had previously declined because he expected to be unable to attend, but now wishes to "take my chance of that." He adds that Woods is in Venice and would also have applied for a ticket had he been at home, most likely fellow artist Henry Woods. 
 
Sir Luke Fildes was a prominent Victorian painter and illustrator and a member of the Savage Club, the celebrated London gentlemen's club founded for figures from the worlds of literature and the arts.
