250 x 175mm. 50 pages of text followed by an extensive series of photographic and architectural plates numbered to CLXXXII, with 4-page index at rear. Original paper-covered boards with dark cloth spine, title stamped to upper board. The boards are rubbed, marked and somewhat soiled, with wear to edges and corners; cloth worn at the head of the spine with some loss. Internally generally clean and sound. Good to Very Good. Edward Bawden's copy, with his ownership signature "Edward Bawden" in ink to the front free endpaper.
 
A substantial illustrated survey of Italian Baroque architecture, including works by Borromini, Pietro da Cortona and others. The provenance is particularly appealing given Bawden's sustained interest in architecture throughout his career. Buildings, architectural interiors and decorative schemes recur frequently in his drawings, prints, murals and commercial work, making this an entirely appropriate volume to have formed part of his library.
