A letter written by Queen Victoria's grandson concerning the disposal of shares. Addressed to Sir John, Albert instructs his correspondent to "sell my shares as soon as Johannis touches 3", whilst adding that if his adviser considers it prudent to wait, "please do as you think best". He continues by observing that a lot of people are going to sell at 3 and then the shares will go down.
The letter refers to shares held by Prince Albert in Apollinaris & Johannis Ltd, the Anglo-German mineral water company formed in 1897 and one of the most successful consumer brands of the period. Albert, a grandson of Queen Victoria and son of Princess Helena, here is discussing his personal investment and anticipated market movements. Appollinaris & Johannis Ltd went on to merge with Schweppes, and in the modern day, is part of the Cadbury Schweppes Group.
