Unsent postcard, 90x140mm; A small nick to left edge, light surface marking. A strip bearing Christabel Pankhurst’s ink signature, cut from a larger document, laid down diagonally across the lower portion of the image. Overall very good.
A formal studio portrait of Christabel Pankhurst, leading figure of the Women’s Social and Political Union and principal architect of its militant campaign in the years before the First World War. The postcard is a commercial issue produced at the height of the suffrage movement. The genuine signature, has been excised from a letter or document and later mounted onto the image.
