Robert Louis Stevenson’s first published work of fiction, being a short anonymous story about the renowned French poet Francis Villon. Set in a wintery Paris evening in 1456. He describes the poet’s moral dilemmas, as he tries to cope with the harsh conditions as well as the criminal entanglement, he has got himself into.
The story reflected the struggles found by individuals in medieval society, as well as consider morality and social justice. An atmospheric and bleak story and highly regarded considering it was RLS’s first effort. It appeared again, in New Arabian Nights in 1882. Scarce.
