London, printed by Tho. Cotes for Robert Allot, 1632.
Folio leaf (Second Folio), 320 × 220 mm. A single original leaf from the Second Folio of Shakespeare’s plays, comprising text from both The First Part of King Henry the Sixth (p. 116) and The Second Part of King Henry the Sixth (p. 115), printed in double columns within ruled borders. light overall toning, with small losses and marks at the outer edges, consistent with former mounting; minor surface marks and handling wear; text fully legible throughout. No tears affecting the printed area. Very good.
Printed in roman and italic types with character names abbreviated in the margins, as standard for the folio format. The Second Folio of 1632 was the first reprint of the First Folio (1623) and is textually important, incorporating numerous corrections and compositorial changes while also introducing some new errors. The recto carries dialogue from the latter part of The first part of Henry VI, including scenes involving Suffolk, Margaret of Anjou, and King Henry, while the verso opens The Second Part of King Henry the Sixth, moving into the political and military tensions that drive the Wars of the Roses cycle.
