Zero Hour by Georg Grabenhorst 1st / 1st 1929
Boston: Little Brown and Company (1929). First US edition in near fine condition. The boards are very clean with only minor wear to the spine ends and corner tips. The pages are a tad browned with age but very clean. A nice copy.
The semi-autobiographical book follows Hans Volkenborn’s experiences in the German army during War. He initially goes into the war with some enthusiasm, taking pleasure in the camaraderie with his fellow soldiers. This eventually turns sour as he goes through the toil and bloodshed of war. At the time of publication, it was compared favourably to ‘All Quiet...” but has been largely forgotten in recent times.
