Years of Renewal signed association copy by Henry Kissinger 1st / 1st 1999

£375.00Price

First UK edition and first print published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson in 1999. This copy is in very good ++ condition. The wrapper has a small chip to the back panel top corner. It is not price clipped. The book has some minor rubbing to the top and bottom of the spine. There is no previous owners names. It is a collectable very good ++ condition.

This copy has been inscribed by Henry Kissinger on the title page to Sir Alistair Horne. The inscription says "To Alistair Horne, from his friend and admirer, Henry Kissinger".

Horne was a journalist, biographer and historian, being the author to over 20 titles. He worked for the Daily Telegraph and was the official biographer for Harold Macmillan. He has won awards for his writing including the hawthornden and Wolfson history prize. The latter was for his work on 'A Savage War of Peace - Algeria 1954-1962' that got the notice of the US administration during the Gulf War. Kissinger recommended this title to George W. Bush, and Horne and the President met in 2007 to discuss the book and his views on the war.

In more recent times, Horne was offered the authorship for Kissinger's memoirs but he turned it down due to his age and the sheer amount of work that was needed. Instead he wrote a year in Kissingers life "Kissinger in 1973; a crucial year" this covered the end of the Vietnam War, Watergate and how Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize. A rare UK signed copy of Kissinger's biography and very scarce with the inscription and close association between the two.
