The Women's Land Army / Poems of the Land Army by Vita Sackville-West 1st 1944
Both volumes are UK First editions and first issue. The Women's Land Army by Vita Sackville West is published by Michael Joseph and is in very good + condition. The wrapper has several light marks across all of the panels. It is a very fragile production made to war time standards. The wrapper has some loss to the bottom of the spine otherwise it is complete and is not price clipped. The corners of the book are gently pushed. The pages are fairly clean with no foxing inside or to the text block. There is no previous owner's ink either. Overall a very good + copy.
The exceptionally scarce 'Poems of the Land Army' is in soft wraps. It has a foreword by Vita Sackville-West. The wraps are generally pretty clean although there is loss to the bottom of the spine of around 2/3cm. Overall this is just about very good.
‘The Women’s Land Army’, written by Vita Sackville-West (under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries) provides an insight into the work undertaken by the Land Girls and provides the chronological context to its formation and part played in both world wars. In addition to a range of first-hand Land Girl recounts, Sackville-West brings together 62 photographs presenting the scope of work undertaken in a variety of different settings. Accompanying this is 'Poems of the Land Army' a scarce anothology of verse by members of the Women's Land Army with a foreword by Sackville West. There are only 2 copies located on library hub and none currently for sale at the time of writing this.
