The Warren Report JFK Assassination first edition signed by Earl Warren 1964

Crown 8vo; printer’s navy blue cloth binding, with the US government crest on the upper board in gilt, and lettering in gilt to the spine, without a dust wrapper as issued; pp [iv], v-xxiv, 888; there is a biro mark of around 3cm in length to the upper board, plus some light scuff marks to the upper and lower boards, the first 4 or 5 pages are creased to the top right hand side; overall a very good copy. 
 
A first edition of The President’s commission on the assassination of President Kennedy, commonly known as the Warren Report, due to the lead attorney charged with spearheading the investigation Chief Justice Warren. This copy is particularly rare as it is signed by Warren, without dedication to the title page. Also, inserted loosely in the front is a typed note, for Burt Griffin.
 
Griffin was one of Warren’s team and officially assistant counsel, in charge of investigating the killer’s shooter, night club owner Jack Ruby. It is more likely that Griffin asked for an extra copy to be signed by Warren for a member of his family or a friend and this was duly done and returned to him with the typed note added to the front. 
 
The vast volume went into incredibly granular detail about the assassination, and the aftermath. It also took and answered contemporary conspiracy theories head on, as well as look at Lee Havey Oswald’s detention, and murder at the hands of Jack Ruby. There are also many appendices including the autopsy report, medical records and biographies of both Oswald and Ruby. It is about as comprehensive as it could have got, with the lead and assistant attorney’s all thoroughly examining their own areas of investigation. In short, the commission ruled that Kennedy was assassinated by a lone shooter with no interference from anyone else. 
 
This is a scarce signed copy of the Warren report, as not many turn up signed by Warren himself. This copy was also earmarked for one of his attorney team.
