The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles 1st 1949

The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles 1st 1949

This is a second impression copy published in September 1949 by John Lehmann. It is a very near fine copy. The wrapper has very minimal wear to one corner and to the spine tips. It is not price clipped and is the correct second impression dust wrapper for the book. The iconic jacket is designed by Fred Uhlman. The book looks unread with no marks, foxing or previous owners handling wear. It is a highly collectible copy and a more affordable alternative to a first print copy.

The Sheltering Sky is a novel centered on the feelings of alienation and existential despair. The story centers on Port Moresby and his wife Kit, a married couple originally from New York who travel to the North African desert accompanied by their friend Tunner. The journey, initially an attempt by Port and Kit to resolve their marital difficulties, is quickly fraught by the travelers' ignorance of the dangers that surround them. Time Magazine listed it as one of the top 100 novels of the 20th century. A rare second print copy and particularly so in such nice condition.
