The Selfish Gene Signed by Richard Dawkins 1st / 1st 1976
First UK edition and first print published by Oxford University Press in 1976. This is a near fine copy with a lovely even tone to the jacket without any fading. It has not been price clipped displaying the correct price of £2.95 net. The pages and boards are very clean and there is very little previous owners handling wear. No foxing or any other marks. Has the bookplate of respected scientist and author Philip S Corbet on the inside board. Overall a near fine copy and rare signed with these attributes.
Philip Steven Corbet FRSE was a British entomologist whose work focused largely on aquatic insects and dragonflies. He co-authored and authored several books on the subject, which established him as a world expert on the order Odonata. He is also noted for his interest in biological controls as a substitute for synthetic pesticides in agriculture.
Richard Dawkins signed this book at the Cheltenham Festival in 2019. In July 2017 a poll to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Royal Society science book prize listed The Selfish Gene as the most influential science book of all time. Dawkins uses the term "selfish gene" as a way of expressing the gene-centred view of evolution.
