The Rock Pool signed by Cyril Connolly 1st / 1st 1936 (to John Arlott)
First edition and first print published by the obelisk press in 1936. This copy is very good. The original wraps have been rebound turning it into a hardback copy. The front and back card wraps have been bound in. first couple and last couple of pages have spotting, all other pages clear. A very good rebound copy.
This copy has been signed on the front free end paper by Cyril Connolly to cricket broadcaster John Arlott. He says "For John Arlott, in memory of that poem about cricket at worcester which assuaged a moment of 'our finest hour' gratefully from Cyril Connolly"
The author makes reference to the first piece of work John Arlott had published. In the 1930's Arlott was a policeman and after attending a game of cricket, he submitted a poem called 'cricket at worcester' to the then editor of Horizon Magazine Cyril Connolly. He published it and Arlott, encouraged by this, began writing. A short while later he left the police and worked for the BBC as its cricket correspondent.
