The Possessed by Albert Camus 1st / 1st 1960
First edition and first print published by Hamish Hamilton in 1960. This is a near fine copy. The jacket is in remarkable condition with no wear at all. It is bright and has a crisp white back panel. There are no marks at all. The book has a tiny pen number on the front free end paper, that has also been clipped to the top right hand side. The upper text block has some foxing marks. Pages are clean with no browning or any other foxing. Overall a near fine copy.
The Possessed (in French Les Possédés) is a three-part play. The piece is a theatrical adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's 1872 novel The Possessed, later renamed Demons. Camus despised nihilism and viewed Dostoyevsky's work as a prophecy about nihilism's devastating effects. Rare with such a fine jacket.
